Genetic tests

Many eye diseases are genetic, which means their risk of developing can be inherited. If there is a family history of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), or other rare hereditary eye diseases, it may be worth considering genetic testing. While it is not yet possible to alter genes, knowing your genetic risks can help you make lifestyle adjustments and attend regular eye check-ups to detect potential diseases as early as possible.

Genorama Genetic Tests

At Turman Eye Clinic and Kreutzwald Eye Center, Genorama genetic tests can be purchased during a visit to an ophthalmologist or optometrist. The sample can be taken easily at home, at a convenient time, and sent by mail to the laboratory. Instructions for sample collection are included in the test kit. Results, along with personalized recommendations on how to improve your lifestyle and health habits, are available within 2–3 weeks.

GeneWell Genetic Tests – Overview of 35 Diseases

The GeneWell genetic test allows you to assess your hereditary predisposition to 35 different diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and other common systemic conditions. The test results provide valuable insights into how to maintain and improve your health. View sample results.

GutWell Microbiome Test and Its Connection to Eye Health

In addition to genetic testing, our center also offers the GutWell microbiome test, which provides an overview of the microbial composition of your gut. The balance of the microbiome is crucial for overall health, and recent scientific studies have shown that the gut microbiota may also influence the development of dry eye syndrome. AMD Genetic Tests

The AMD genetic test is recommended for relatives of patients with age-related macular degeneration, to determine their risk level and learn how to reduce that risk through lifestyle modifications. View sample test results.

Macular degeneration examinations can be performed at Kreutzwald Eye Center, and further treatment is available at our AMD Center at Turman Eye Clinic.

Genetic Tests for Rare Hereditary Eye Diseases

In collaboration with Asper Biogene Laboratory, we also offer genetic tests for the detection of rare inherited eye diseases, such as Stargardt disease and retinitis pigmentosa. In these cases, a blood sample is taken, and a pre-test consultation with an ophthalmologist is required.
